Peter Vargas Memorial Scholarship
Ocean State North Kingstown United is honored to announce the creation of the Peter Vargas Memorial Soccer Scholarship in loving memory of Peter Vargas, a long-time board member and devoted advocate for youth soccer in North Kingstown. Peter passed away in August 2024, leaving behind an enduring legacy of commitment, passion, and service to our community.
For decades, Peter dedicated his time and energy to North Kingstown Soccer Association, playing a vital role in shaping the organization and positively impacting the lives of countless young athletes. His leadership was instrumental in the success of NKSA’s elite teams during the 1990s and 2000s, and his relentless care for the Wilson Park soccer fields ensured that future generations could enjoy the sport he loved so dearly. Peter was also a beloved fixture at the NK Father’s Day Classic Tournament, where his presence and support spanned over 30 years. |
The Peter Vargas Memorial Soccer Scholarship will honor Peter’s unwavering dedication to the sport and community by supporting graduating high school seniors who has demonstrated not only talent on the field but also a commitment to teamwork, leadership, and community service—qualities Peter exemplified throughout his life.

Scholarship Details:
- Eligibility: Open to graduating high school seniors who have participated in North Kingstown Soccer Association, Ocean State Soccer or OSNK United.
- Award: One-time scholarship to assist with college or trade school expenses.
- Criteria: Selection will be based on soccer participation, academic achievements, leadership qualities, commitment to community service, and an essay reflecting how soccer has impacted the applicant’s life.
